Ville Husso made his first AHL start since March of 2020, posting a 25-save shutout against the Belleville Senators

If Ville Husso showed signs of rust, they didn't translate to the scoresheet on Friday night.

Husso, in his first game since December 18th, blanked the Belleville Senators with a 25-save shutout as the Grand Rapids Griffins rolled past the B-Sens 3-0.

The win was Husso’s first contest in the AHL since March 8, 2020. He became the third goaltender to have earned a shutout during a conditioning stint in Grand Rapids (Jimmy Howard in 2016-17; Alex Nedeljkovic in 2022-23) while being the first to do so in his debut.

Husso, a fourth-round pick of the St. Louis Blues in 2014, has suited up for 128 AHL games between the Chicago Wolves, San Antonio Rampage and Grand Rapids Griffins. In 2019-20 Husso earned four shutouts through 42 games with the Rampage, owning a 2.56 GAA and .909 SP with 16 wins. Through 18 games with the Red Wings this season Husso is 9-5-2 with a 3.53 GAA and .893 SP.

In the contest, Jonatan Berggren became the seventh-fastest Griffin to score 100 points, surpassing the 100-point plateau (102) with a three-point night (2-1–3). Berggren also extended his point streak (4-3--7) to five games with his three-point outing, as he added to his run of 13 points (5-8--13) in his last 10 games.

Carter Mazur collected two points (1-1--2) in the victory. Austin Czarnik secured his 11th point in 10 games with an assist on Mazur's tally, which extended his point streak to five games. Grand Rapids currently rides a four-game win streak with the victory over Belleville.
