Levi shines in AHL debut, Nemec makes his mark in first game with New Jersey, and the Bears continue to dominate the league with eighth-straight win
The Hershey Bears could well be on their way to repeating as Calder Cup Champions.
Topping the league with 34 points with a 17-4 record through 21 games, the Bears pushed their winning streak to eight games with a 4-2 win over the Charlotte Checkers on Friday.
22-year-old French forward Perrick Dubé scored two goals to move to 10 on the season, while rookie goaltender Clay Stevenson put up 27 saves on 29 shots, moving his record to 7-3 through ten games with a 1.70 GAA and .931 SP.
Elsewhere, highly touted Buffalo Sabres goaltender Devon Levi earned a win in his first AHL game as the Rochester Americans moved past the Belleville Senators 3-2 in the shootout.
Levi put up 40 saves on 42 shots, blanking all shooters in the shootout. The seventh-rounder in 2020 struggled in the NHL this season with a 3.73 GAA and .876 SP through nine games in Buffalo.
Finally, second overall pick in 2022 for the New Jersey Devils Simon Nemec put up two points in a losing effort in his National Hockey League debut.
The 19-year-old Slovak put up two assists with a minus-two and 22.38 minutes logged as the Devils dropped a 6-3 decision to the San Jose Sharks.
Nemec, who has eight points in 13 games with the Utica Comets this season, is expected to see significant ice-time with an injury to Devils blue-line stalwart Dougie Hamilton.
