AHL and NHL veteran Adam Johnson has tragically passed away at the age of 29

Devastating news across the hockey world this morning, as Adam Johnson has passed away at the age of 29 following a freak accident in an EIHL game last night.

Johnson sustained an injury from an errant skate blade during a Challenger Cup game between the Nottingham Panthers and the Sheffield Steelers.

The league and his home club Panthers confirmed the tragic news of his passing with a social media post this morning.

The 29-year-old Grand Rapids native and product of the University of Minnesota-Duluth played parts of six seasons in the American Hockey League with the Wilkes Barre-Scranton Penguins, Ontario Reign, and LeHIgh Valley Phantoms. He suited up for 13 games with the Pittsburgh Penguins in the NHL.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, loved ones and fans.
