Bell has been a member of the Senators since the 2019-20 season

The Belleville Senators have signed head coach David Bell to a two-year extension, the team announced Saturday.

Bell, who first joined the Senators prior to the 2019-20 season, has spent parts of two seasons as head coach. Bell's extension will see him remain at the helm until 2025-26.

A product of Wiarton, Ont., Bell got his first coaching gig in 2004-05 as an assistant coach with the Owen Sound Attack (OHL) shortly after retiring from a six-year pro career.

After spending three seasons with the Attack, Bell made the jump to the AHL to join the Springfield Falcons as an assistant coach.

Following two seasons with the Falcons, Bell would make stops with the Barrie Colts (2009-11), Quad City Mallards (2011-12), Sudbury Wolves (2012-13), Niagara IceDogs (2013-17) and Ontario Reign (2017-19) before beginning his journey with Belleville.

Bell initially joined the Senators in 2019 as an assistant coach and would spend parts of four seasons in that role before being named interim head coach on Feb. 2, 2023 (Bell would see the interim tag removed three months later on May 2).

In his first full season as head coach, Bell led the Senators to a fourth place finish in the North Division and a playoff berth. After beating the Toronto Marlies in the first round of the Calder Cup Playoffs, the Senators would be eliminated by the Cleveland Monsters in the second round.

Fresh off a successful first season, Bell proved he belongs as an AHL head coach. After proving to be a difficult team to match up against, the Senators will be a team to watch as they head into next season.
