The Bridgeport Islanders have signed defenseman Seth Helgeson to a standard player contract, it was reported Tuesday.
Helgeson, a product of Faribault, Minn., signs the Islanders after having been with the team on a professional try-out. Helgeson has seen seven games with the team this season, having gone pointless.
Drafted by the New Jersey Devils in the fourth round of the 2009 NHL Draft, Helgeson has been with Bridgeport since the 2017-18 season. While also serving as their captain from 2020-2024, Helgeson has collected 60 points across 454 regular season games with the franchise.
With Helgeson joining the Islanders for the rest of the season, they will be getting a veteran presence who has been around the team for a better part of a decade. As someone who provides a steadying presence, Helgeson is a good signing for the team.
