Calgary Wranglers forward Rory Kerins has been named AHL Player of the Week, it was announced Monday.

Kerins, who is in his third full season of pro hockey, scored five goals across three games this past week. He recorded a hat trick against the Coachella Valley Firebirds last Wednesday and followed that up with two more against the Henderson Silver Knights on Friday.

His impressive start to the season has left Kerins atop the leaderboard for goals, with seven through five games. His eight points on the season also has him tied with teammates Walker Duehr and Jakob Pelletier for the league lead.

Drafted by the Calgary Flames in the sixth round of the 2020 NHL Draft, Kerins had 16 goals and 16 assists for 32 points in 54 regular season games with the Wranglers last season. A product of Caledon, Ont., Kerins played for the OHL's Soo Greyhounds before turning pro.

With Kerins and the Wranglers sitting atop the Western Conference standings, they have solidified themselves as a team to watch for this season.
