The Calgary Wranglers have signed former North Dakota forward Carter Wilkie to an amateur try-out, the team announced Saturday.
Wilkie, a product of Calgary, Alta., joins the Wranglers after wrapping up his first season with the Fighting Hawks and fourth in the NCAA. Across 38 games this season, he scored nine goals and added nine assists for 18 points.
Over 155 career NCAA games with the Fighting Hawks and RIT, Wilkie scored 52 goals and added 77 assists for 129 points, Before making the jump, he played his junior hockey with the AJHL's Calgary Mustangs as well as in the BCHL with the Chilliwack Chiefs and the West Kelowna Warriors.
Although Wilkie had a down year offensively compared to his previous NCAA seasons, he has all the tools needed to make an impact for the Wranglers. Capable of contributing at both ends of the ice, Wilkie should be able to earn himself a contract.
