Charlotte Checkers Sign Colton Huard To ATO

The Charlotte Checkers have signed defenseman Colton Huard to an amateur try-out, it was reported Tuesday. 

Huard, who recently wrapped up his senior season with New Hampshire (NCAA), collected 10 assists in 35 games. Across his four seasons with the Wildcats, Huard scored 14 goals and added 53 assists for 67 points in 134 career games. 

Before heading to the NCAA, the product of Foothill Ranch, Calif., played his junior hockey in the NAHL with the Aberdeen Wings and the USHL with the Fargo Force and the Chicago Steel. 

As Huard makes the jump to the pro game, he has the size and skills that will make him an intriguing player to watch. Although his offensive stats fell off a bit this year, Huard moves the puck with a purpose and should be a solid addition to the Checkers.
