Kinkaid was at New York Islanders training camp on a PTO

The Charlotte Checkers have signed goaltender Keith Kinkaid to a one-year deal, the team announced Wednesday.

A product of Farmingville. N.Y., Kinkaid was at New York Islanders training camp on a professional try-out.

A well travelled goalie over the course of his career, Kinkaid spent last season playing for the Chicago Wolves where he collected a 8-14-2 record to go along with a 3.54 GAA and a .880 SV% in 24 appearances.

Since turning pro in 2011, Kinkaid has played in 169 career NHL regular season games, posting a 70-58-21 record, a 2.91 GAA and a .905 SV%. He has also spent parts of nine years in the AHL, collecting a 2.80 GAA and a .904 SV% in 250 appearances.

As Kinkaid gets set to join the Checkers, he will be facing stiff competition if he hopes to grab a role with the team. The Checkers have goaltenders Chris Driedger, Mack Guzda, Ken Appleby, Evan Cormier and Cooper Black all competing for minutes. While his numbers took a dip last season, Kinkaid has proven to be a reliable AHL goalie over the course of his career.
