Jugnauth joined the Firebirds after his season with the Portland Winterhawks
The Coachella Valley Firebirds have released defenseman Tyson Jugnauth from his amateur try-out, the team announced this past week.
A product of Toronto, Ont., Jugnauth spent this past season playing for the University of Wisconsin (NCAA) and the Portland Winterhawks (WHL).
Having spent parts of two seasons with the Badgers, Jugnauth elected to leave Wisconsin to join the Winterhawks. In 41 regular season games with Portland, Jugnauth scored seven goals and added 34 assists for 41 points.
Jugnauth was also an important contributor during the playoffs, collecting 16 points in 18 games.
A 2022 fourth-round pick of the Seattle Kraken, Jugnauth never appeared in a game with the Firebirds but it will most likely be chalked down as a good experience nonetheless as he got exposure to the professional level.
While it is not confirmed where Jugnauth will play next year, he has another year of junior eligibility remaining. With Jugnauth having made an impact in Portland, it would not be a surprise to seen him return.
