Colorado Eagles defenseman Devante Stephens has signed a one-year deal in Austria with EC Salzburg, it was announced earlier this week.
A product of White Rock, B.C., Stephens spent the entire 2024-25 season with the Eagles, collecting three goals and eight assists for 11 points in 49 regular season games. With Colorado having made the Calder Cup playoffs, Stephens got into seven games and registered an assist.
Drafted by the Buffalo Sabres in the fifth round of the 2015 NHL Draft, Stephens never appeared in an NHL game but has gotten into 285 career AHL regular season games with the Eagles, Rochester Americans, Syracuse Crunch, Abbotsford Canucks and the Tucson Roadrunners. Over that span, he scored 21 goals and added 49 assists for 70 points.
With Stephens off to the ICEHL, he will be joining an EC Salzburg team where he should be given a big role. Having played steadying two-way hockey over the course of his career, Stephens will be a good addition to the team and should be a contributor immediately.
