The Red Wings added some grit in the form of San Jose Barracuda captain Radim Simek.

The Detroit Red Wings acquired defenseman Radim Simek and New Jersey’s 7th round pick in 2024 (previously acquired by SJ on 2/26/2023) in exchange for forward Klim Kostin.

Simek was named the fifth captain in San Jose Barracuda history earlier this season.

The 31-year-old blueliner, who has played 209 NHL games, has four goals and 16 points in 40 games with the Barracuda this season.

Kostin, a first rounder of the Blues in 2017, has suited up for parts of five seasons in the AHL with San Antonio, Springfield and Bakersfield, with 136 games punched at the NHL level.
