Kamil Krzaczynski-USA TODAY Sports - Detroit Red Wings Sign Albert Johansson to One-Year Extension

The Detroit Red Wings have re-signed defenseman Albert Johansson to a one-year, two-way contract, the team announced Wednesday.

Drafted by the Red Wings in the second round of the 2019 NHL Draft, Johansson just finished his second full season with the Grand Rapids Griffins where he had six goals and 15 assists for 21 points in 66 regular season games.

Johansson also appeared in nine playoff games for the Griffins, collecting three assists in the process.

Prior to coming to North America before the 2022-23 season, Johansson had already accumulated professional expirence in parts of four seasons with Farjestad BK in the SHL. Over the course of 141 regular season games, Johansson had 15 goals and 42 assists for 57 points.

As Johansson looks to take another step in his game, it would not be surprising to see the Red Wings give him his first taste of the NHL next season. While Johansson will most likely spend the majority of 2024-25 in the AHL, with a strong season, he could be a full-time option for the Red Wings as soon as 2025-26.
