Grand Rapids outshot Manitoba 14-5 in the first period. Even when factoring out the Griffins' one power play of the period where they put up three shots, Grand Rapids still put up more than twice the number of shots that Manitoba did in the first frame. Still, no team found the game-opening goal.
After the Moose outshot the Griffins 6-1 for the first 5:54 of the second period including putting up two shots on their first power play, Grand Rapids outshot Manitoba 12-4 the rest of the frame, but yet again no team found the ice-breaker going into second intermission.
Despite having outshot the Moose 10-6 with 4:09 minutes left in the third and 38-21 overall, Grand Rapids committed a penalty, putting Manitoba on their third power play. This time, Moose captain Mason Shaw did not miss and put in the game-winning power play goal, giving Manitoba Game One.
Moose goalie Domenic DiVincentiis registered a 39-save shutout.
Griffins goalie Michal Postava made 22 saves off 23 shots for a save percentage of 0.957.
