The 2019 first-round pick of the Panthers spent the entire season with the Checkers

The Florida Panthers have recalled goaltender Spencer Knight from the Charlotte Checkers, the team announced Thursday.

The move comes after Knight and the Checkers were just eliminated in the first round of the Calder Cup Playoffs.

The 2019 first-round pick (13th overall) of the Panthers spent the entire 2023-24 season in the AHL, with the Panthers stating at the beginning of the season that the plan was to get Knight regular playing time.

In 45 regular season games played with the Checkers, he went 25-14-5 to go along with a 2.41 GAA and a .905 SV%. Knight was impressive in the playoffs as well, going 1-1 with a 1.87 GAA and a .925 SV%.

With the Panthers getting strong goaltending this past season from the likes of Sergei Bobrovsky and Anthony Stolarz, having Knight getting extra development was ideal for the Panthers.

Although Knight has 57 games of NHL experience under his belt, and has posted good numbers while doing it, he is still young and this season will only be a benefit as he assumes a bigger workload with the Panthers in the coming seasons.

As the Panthers get set for the second round, Knight most likely won't see action but it is still good to see him be rewarded for his play this past season.
