Former Grand Rapids Griffins forward Joe Snively has signed a one-year deal in Sweden with Djurgardens IF, it was announced Wednesday.
A native of Herndon, Va., Snively spent the entire 2024-25 season with the Griffins, putting up 21 goals and 26 assists for 47 points in 72 regular season games. With Grand Rapids having made the playoffs, Snively contributed one assist in three games.
Having made the transition to the pro game at the end of the 2018-19 season, Snively spent parts of six seasons in the Washington Capitals organization, including getting into 27 career NHL regular season games. Over that span, Snively scored six goals and added five assists for 11 points.
With Snively headed over to the SHL, he should become a go-to offensive player for Djurgardens IF. As someone who could likely still contribute at the NHL level, Snively could be a candidate to return to North America next summer if he gets interest from NHL teams.
