Former Henderson Silver Knights forward Tyler Benson has signed a one-year deal in Germany with the EC Kassel Huskies, it was announced Saturday.
A 2016 second round pick of the Edmonton Oilers, Benson played last season in the SHL with MoDo Hockey, going pointless in 31 regular season games. With MoDo playing three relegation games, Benson managed to score a goal and add an assist.
Having turned pro at the end of the 2017-18 season, Benson appeared in 38 career NHL regular season games with the Oilers, putting up a goal and three points. Prior to that, he played parts of five seasons in the WHL with the Vancouver Giants.
With Benson heading to the DEL2 (Germany's second tier pro league), he should be able to find his game again and bounce back offensively. Although his time in Sweden likely did not go as he expected, Benson put up 25 points in 52 games just two seasons ago and will be a go to player for the Huskies in no time.
