Former Manitoba Moose forward Axel Jonsson-Fjallby has signed a three-year deal in Sweden with Byrnas IF, it was reported last week.
Jonsson-Fjallby, a product of Stockholm, Sweden, spent the entire 2024-25 season with the Moose, scoring 12 goals and adding 15 assists for 27 points in 65 regular season games. A 2016 fifth round pick of the Washington Capitals, Jonsson-Fjallby appeared in 99 career NHL regular season games with the Capitals and the Winnipeg Jets, putting up 10 goals and 13 assists for 23 points.
Having first come to North America for the 2018-19 season, Jonsson-Fjallby spent the majority of his time in the AHL, getting into 262 regular season games with Moose and the Hershey Bears, collecting 67 goals and 136 points.
With Jonsson-Fjallby heading back to his home country, it is likely that his time playing hockey in North America has come to an end. Although he was never able to hold down a consistent role in the NHL, Jonsson-Fjallby flashed his skill and speed when he got into the lineup and will be a good addition to the SHL.
