Johnson split the season between the Toronto Marlies and the Newfoundland Growlers
Former Toronto Marlies forward Isaac Johnson has signed with Jukurit in Finland, it was announced Monday.
A product of Andover, MN., Johnson split time this season between the Toronto Marlies and the Newfoundland Growlers (ECHL). In eight games with the Marlies, he collected two points and in 50 games with the Growlers, he scored 31 goals and added 37 assists for 68 points.
Prior to turning pro in 2020-21, Johnson played junior hockey with the Des Moines Buccaneers (USHL), Tri-City Americans (WHL), and Winnipeg Ice (WHL).
In parts of two seasons with the Buccaneers, Johnson had 30 points in 51 games. After moving to the WHL, he collected 153 points in 161 regular season games across three seasons.
As Johnson makes the move to Finland, he should thrive. No matter what level he has played at, he has shown the ability to produce and should be able to adapt to the bigger ice surfaces.
While it would most likely take a two-way contract offer to get him to come back to North America, Johnson could be an intriguing free agent in the near future.
