Former Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins forward Mathias Laferriere has signed a one-year deal in Slovakia with HK Spisska Nova Ves, it was announced late last week.

Laferriere, a 2018 sixth-round pick of the St. Louis Blues, split the 2024-25 season between the Penguins and the Springfield Thunderbirds, scoring five goals and adding 13 assists for 18 points in 55 regular season games.

Since turning pro in 2021, Laferriere has appeared in 229 career AHL regular season games, collecting 24 goals and 54 assists for 78 points. Prior to that, he spent time playing his junior hockey in the QMJHL with the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada and the Cape Breton Eagles.

With Laferriere heading over to Slovakia, this will be his first foray into European hockey. As someone who has the ability to create plays, Laferriere should be able to find success when he steps out onto the ice with HK Spisska Nova Ves.
