Watson coached the Griffins to his 300th professional win as a head coach on Friday
National Hockey League veteran goaltender Michael Hutchinson posted a shutout as the Grand Rapids Griffins moved past the Iowa Wild 2-0 on Friday, with the win marking a huge milestone for head coach Dan Watson.
Watson earned his 300th professional win as a head coach on Friday, with the Griffins extending their home point streak to 15 games, which tied Milwaukee for the longest in the AHL this season, is one game shy of a franchise record of 16 set more than 20 years ago and is Grand Rapids' longest since a 15-game streak from Nov. 11, 2015 to Jan. 17, 2016. The 14 shots conceded by the Griffins are the fewest given up in a game this season.
Watson became the 12th head coach in franchise history this past June after serving six seasons as head coach of the ECHL’s Toledo Walleye.
The 44-year-old guided Toledo to a 45-19-5-3 (0.681) record last season before going 9-4 in the Kelly Cup Playoffs to reach the Western Conference Finals. He has been with the Red Wings organization for the past 14 seasons
