Grand Rapids Griffins goaltender Jan Bednar has signed a one-year deal in Finland with Assat, it was announced earlier this week.
Bednar, a 2020 fourth-round pick of the Detroit Red Wings, split time this season between the Griffins and the ECHL's Toledo Walleye. Across four AHL games, he collected a record of 1-2-0 while putting up a 2.12 GAA and a .919 SP. In 37 regular season ECHL appearances, Bednar went 23-8-6 while posting a 2.34 GAA and a .914 SP.
With the Walleye making a deep run in the playoffs, Bednar played a big part in their success, accumulating a record of 7-5 along with a 2.37 GAA and a .909 SP in 12 appearances.
Since coming over to play junior hockey in the QMJHL during the 2020-21 season, Bednar has posted solid numbers wherever he has suited up. As he heads back to Europe, he will have the opportunity to grab a big role with Assat and help them in their attempt to win the Canada Bowl.
