Simek split this past season between the San Jose Barracuda and the Griffins

Grand Rapids Griffins defenseman Radim Simek has signed a three-year contract with Bili Tygri Liberec in Czechia, it was announced Friday.

Simek, a product of Mlada Boleslav, Czechia, split this past season between the San Jose Barracuda and the Griffins. In 40 games with the Barracuda, he had four goals and 12 assists for 16 points while collecting an assist in nine regular season games with the Griffins.

Simek also saw time with the Griffins during the playoffs where he had two assists in eight games.

Having first made the trek to North America prior to the 2017-18 season, Simek spent parts of seven seasons with the Sharks organization and played 209 NHL games with the team.

As Simek returns to his home country to play, this is most likely the last time he plays in North America. Simek will be 34 when his contract runs out and will most likely not be someone that attracts much NHL attention.
