Toledo Walleye defenseman Nicklas Andrews has signed a one-year deal with the Grand Rapids Griffins, it was announced late last week.

Andrews, who joined the Walleye at the end of last season, appeared in a combined 22 games for the team - two in the regular season and 20 in the playoffs. While he collected an assist in the regular season, Andrews had a goal and three points in the playoffs.

Prior to turning pro, Andrews spent parts of five seasons in the NCAA with Colorado College and Michigan State. In 166 career collegiate games, he scored 12 goals and added 55 assists for 67 points.

With Andrews inking a deal with the Griffins, he could have the chance to earn a spot with the team out of training camp. If not, he will start the year with Toledo and is a likely candidate to be called up in case of injuries.
