A number of notable players are expected to hit the AHL today, although more than one of those will be a paper transaction.
Per NHL rules, a player must be on an AHL roster at 3 pm ET today in order to be eligible to be sent down from the NHL at any time for the rest of the season. As such, several notables are expected to hit the AHL, if ever briefly.
TSN's Chris Johnston reports that the Leafs are expected to waive Matthew Knies today to preserve flexibility and allow Knies an opportunity for a Calder Cup run with the Marlies, if required.
Other players which have already been sent down to their American League affiliates include the white-hot Logan Stankoven, Senators forwards Rourke Chartier and Jiri Smejkal and Capitals forwards Hendrix Lapierre and goaltender Hunter Shepard.
