The Toronto Marlies could be looking to add a veteran presence to their blueline.

Today, the Maple Leafs' AHL affiliate signed 33-year-old defenseman Cameron Gaunce to a professional tryout.

The Sudbury native, a second-round selection of the Colorado Avalanche in 2008, has suited up for seven AHL clubs in his pro career.

Gaunce played parts of three seasons with the Lake Erie Monsters in 2010-11 before spending time with the Texas Stars, Portland Pirates, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, Cleveland Monsters, Syracuse Crunch, and the Ontario Reign.

The blueline vet has 37 games punched across the NHL with stints in Colorado, Dallas, Pittsburgh, and Tampa Bay.

An injury to Flames starter Jacob Markstrom has opened the door for promising goaltending prospect Dustin Wolf to return to the NHL.

Wolf, 22, allowed four goals on 38 shots in his NHL season debut against the Ottawa Senators on November 11th. He had previously made 23 saves on 24 shots in his NHL debut with the Flames in 2022-23.

The seventh-round pick of the Flames in 2019 has been steady for the Wranglers this season. Through 13 games this season Wolf has 10 wins and two shutouts with a 2.50 GAA and .920 SP.

In his final season in the WHL in 2020-21 Wolf put up a sparkling 1.80 GAA and .940 SP with 18 wins and four shutouts in 22 games.
