The Charlotte Checkers have signed goaltender Michael Simpson to a one-year deal, it was announced Thursday.

Simpson, who hails from London, Ont., just wrapped up his first professional season, splitting time between the Belleville Senators and the ECHL's Orlando Solar Bears. Across 10 AHL appearances, Simpson put up a 4-3-0 record, a 3.45 goals-against average and a .880 save percentage. With the Solar Bears, he accumulated a stat line of 3-1-0, a 2.13 GAA and a .926 SP in six appearances.

Prior to making the jump to the pro level, Simpson played parts of three seasons in the OHL with the Peterborough Petes and the London Knights. Over that span, he went 78-50-7 along with a 2.94 GAA and a .904 SP in 144 career games.

With Simpson off to join the Checkers, he could see himself spend the entire year in the AHL in 2025-26. Although his numbers don't jump off the page, he showed he could keep up with his peers in the AHL and will only continue to get better as he continues to adjust to the pro game and the rigours that come along with it.
