The Milwaukee Admirals tied their third round series against the Grand Rapids Griffins Monday after a 5-2 victory in Game 2.
After the Griffins took Game 1 by a score of 4-2, the Admirals entered Game 2 hoping to keep the series within their grasp and did just that.
Right out of the gates, the Admirals got the start they were hoping for. The Griffins took a penalty less than a minute into the game and the Admirals were able to create some momentum.
It soon paid off as Egor Afanasyev scored his first of the playoffs less than five minutes into the game.
As the Griffins looked to respond, they ended up taking two penalties less than a minute apart - allowing Fedor Svechkov to collect his third of the playoffs to put the Admirals up two. It ended up staying that way as they headed into the first intermission.
The second period saw the Griffins lead in the shot department by a margin of 12-8, getting three power play opportunities to try and score but they couldn't get anything past Yaroslav Askarov.
While the Admirals had trouble staying out of the box, they ended up netting the only goal of the period off the stick of Zach L'Heureux while shorthanded.
Entering the third with a 3-0 lead, the Admirals never let off the gas, netting their fourth goal of the game (courtesy of Marc Del Gaizo) less than four minutes into the period.
While the Griffins managed to score two late goals from Carter Mazur and Dominik Shine, the Admirals held on against the late push as Jasper Weatherby scored the empty netter and the Admirals took home the victory.
Game 3 is scheduled for May 22 with a 7 p.m. ET start time.
