Donovan played for the Chicago Wolves last season
The Milwaukee Admirals have hired Matt Donovan as an assistant coach, the team announced Monday.
A product of Edmond, Okla., Donovan is officially calling it a career after having spent the 2023-24 season with the Chicago Wolves. In 69 regular season games with the Wolves, he scored four goals and added 39 assists for 43 points.
Drafted by the New York Islanders in the fourth round of the 2008 NHL Draft, Donovan suited up in 524 career AHL regular season games, collecting 300 points in the process. Donovan suited up for the Admirals during the 2018-19, 2019-20 and 2021-22 seasons.
Over the course of his career, Donovan also appeared in 69 NHL regular season games, putting up 20 points.
As Donovan makes the jump to coaching, he will be entering with a little bit of experience, having served as a team consultant for the Oklahoma City Jr. Blazers (NA3HL) during the 2020-21 season. Still just 34 years old, Donovan will be able to serve as a mentor for the Admirals' younger players.
