
Paul Maurice is now has the fifth most wins for a head coach in NHL history.
The Florida Panthers, under Maurice, have been white hot, going 6-2-2 in their past 10 games, shutting down the Capitals on Thursday and blanking the Avalanche 4-0 on Saturday. The win against the Avs marked the 850th head coaching win for Maurice, which propelled him up the all-time head coaching wins list.
Lindy Ruff, Joel Quenneville, Barry Trotz and Scotty Bowman (with an outstanding first place of 1244 wins), are the only coaches in NHL history to earn more wins than Maurice.
The 57-year-old has coached for the Hartford Whales, Carolina Hurricanes, Toronto Maple Leafs, Winnipeg Jets and Panthers, who he guided to the Stanley Cup finals in 2022-23.
In the American League, Maurice coached the Leafs' affiliate Toronto Marlies in the 2005-6 season, finishing to a 41-29-6-4 record, leading the club to the post-season where they would bow out in the first round to the Grand Rapids Griffins.
