The Capitals prospect joined the organization in March after previously being a free agent
The Hershey Bears signed Prince George Cougars forward Zac Funk to an amateur try-out for the remainder of the season, the team announced Tuesday.
Funk, who was playing out his overage season in the WHL with the Cougars, impressed the Capitals enough for him to be rewarded with an entry-level contract on Mar. 1.
After being eliminated by the Portland Winterhawks in the third round of the WHL playoffs, Funk ended his season having collected 123 points in 68 regular season games as well as adding a further 18 in 15 playoff games.
Across parts of six seasons in the WHL, Funk scored 119 goals and added 108 assists for 227 points in 228 career games with the Cougars and the Calgary Hitmen.
As the Bears get their third round series underway against Hartford tomorrow, Funk should get a look. While he has played a lot of hockey since October, he finished second in the WHL in total points and could be a secret weapon for the Bears.
