The Providence Bruins have re-signed forward Joey Abate to a two-year contract extension, it was announced late last week.

Hailing from Bloomingdale, Ill., Abate just finished his third season with the Bruins, collecting eight goals and four assists for 12 points in 44 regular season games. In a further four playoff games, Abate put up an assist.

Over the course of 132 career AHL regular season games, Abate has scored 14 goals and added 17 assists for 31 points. Before making the jump to the pro game, Abate played three seasons in the NCAA with the University of Nebraska Omaha.

With Abate signing on with Providence for the next few years, they will be getting an important depth piece back for their team. Never hesitating to be physical or go to the dirty areas. Abate should only continue to grow his game on the offensive side of the puck and be a bigger contributor for his team.
