Former Bakersfield Condors goaltender Olivier Rodrigue has signed a one-year deal in the KHL with Barys Astana, it was announced earlier this week.
Rodrigue, a 2018 second-round pick of the Edmonton Oilers, split time this season between the Oilers and the Condors. In two games with the Oilers, Rodrigue went 0-1-0 while posting a 3.10 goals-against average and a .862 save percentage. With Bakersfield, Rodrigue got into 41 regular-season games, putting up a stat line of 18-16-8, a 3.12 GAA and a .897 SP.
While Rodrigue's two NHL appearances last season were the only ones in his career, Rodrigue has gotten into 131 career AHL games with the Condors, accumulating a 61-52-17 record and a .905 SP.
With Rodrigue signing in the KHL, this is the first time he will head overseas. With Stuart Skinner and Calvin Pickard still holding down the Oilers crease, it would have been tough for Rodrigue to find a spot on the team. If he plays well in 2025-26, look for Rodrigue to get another NHL look next summer.
