Appert will join the Sabres bench as an assistant coach where he will help manage the forwards and power play

The Buffalo Sabres have promoted Rochester Americans head coach Seth Appert, the team announced Monday.

Appert will join the Sabres bench as an assistant coach where he will play a role in running the forwards and helping to revitalize the power play.

Appert has served as the Americans head coach since the 2020-21 season where he has put together a 123-94-22-10 record across four seasons. He helped lead the team to three consecutive playoff berths and develop numerous Sabres players including Jack Quinn, JJ Peterka, Mattias Samuelsson and Ukka-Pekka Luukkonen.

"After conversations with Seth, he reaffirmed what I already knew - he is ready for this opportunity," Sabres head coach Lindy Ruff said in the team's press release.

Before joining the Sabres organization, Appert had a long coaching career in the NCAA where he served as assistant coach of the Denver Pioneers for nine seasons (from 1997-98 to 2005-06) before spending 11 seasons with the RPI Engineers as their head coach (from 2006-07 to 2016-17).

Appert also served as the head coach of the U.S. NTDP Juniors for three seasons before making the jump to the AHL.

The Sabres will begin the search to find his replacement immediately.
