The Amerks set the tone early in the first 16:58 of the game, outshooting the Marlies 8-6. Four of Toronto's shots came in between the 15:12 and 15:54 marks. Two of Rochester's shots resulted in goals - a game-winning power play goal by AHL All-Star Konsta Helenius, and the second being the insurance goal by former Blue Jackets' 2017 sixth-rounder Carson Meyer.
Toronto also had their opportunities on the man-advantage, two of them in the game, but could manage only two shots without finding the back of the net.
The Marlies managed to outshoot the Americans in both the second and third periods, but Rochester goalie Devon Levi proved too much of an obstacle, posting a 29-save shutout to ensure a Game Three on Sunday.
Marlies goalie Artur Akhtyamov made 20 saves off 23 shots for a save percentage of 0.870.
