Rockford IceHogs defenseman Cavan Fitzgerald has signed a two-year extension with the team, it was announced earlier this week.
Fitzgerald, who finished his first season with Rockford this year, scored eight goals and added 14 assists for 22 points in 63 regular season games. With the IceHogs making the playoffs, Fitzgerald collected an assist in seven games.
Hailing from Boston, Mass., Fitzgerald turned pro with the San Jose Barracuda in 2017, and has since appeared in 373 career AHL regular season games with the Barracuda, IceHogs, Charlotte Checkers and the Chicago Wolves. In that time, he collected 41 goals and 77 assists for 118 points.
As Fitzgerald re-signs with the IceHogs, it is clear they liked what they saw from him in is first season with the team. Having worn an "A" for them, Fitzgerald's impact stretches off the ice as well, and he will be a good mentor for the young talent coming through the Chicago Blackhawks' system.
