The Seattle Kraken have assigned forward Mitchell Stephens to the Coachella Valley Firebirds, it was announced Wednesday.

Stephens, who is in his first season with the Kraken organization, has split time this year between the Firebirds and Seattle. In 28 NHL games, Stephens has scored one goal and collected three points while putting up four goals and eight points in 18 AHL games.

Drafted by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the second round of the 2015 NHL Draft, Stephens has appeared in 123 career NHL regular season games with the Lightning, Kraken, Detroit Red Wings and the Montreal Canadiens. In that span, he has accumulated six goals and 13 assists for 19 points.

With Stephens being assigned to the AHL, he will be relied upon by the Firebirds to be a play driver. As someone who has proven to be a difference maker in the AHL, Stephens is good depth for the Kraken to have and could see time if Seattle is affected by injuries.
