Members of the Henderson and Lehigh Valley rosters have been named the first two AHL Players of the Week for the 2023-24 season.

After 10 days of play, the AHL named their first two Players of the Week. 

Henderson Silver Knights forward Sheldon Rempal has been selected as the Howies Hockey Tape/AHL Player of the Week for the period ending October 15, 2023.

Rempal recorded three goals and two assists to help the Silver Knights open the 2023-24 season with a pair of wins at Iowa.

In the season opener, Rempal scored a power-play goal in the first period and assisted on another one in the second as Henderson defeated the Wild, 4-2. The following day Rempal scored twice more and dished out another assist in the Silver Knights’ 7-3 victory, earning first-star honors for the second night in a row.

Rempal enters his sixth professional season in 2023-24 after finishing second on the Silver Knights roster with 63 points a year ago. In 267 career AHL contests with Henderson, Abbotsford, Chicago and Ontario, Rempal has totaled 84 goals and 128 assists for 212 points, and he participated in the AHL All-Star Classic as a rookie in 2019.

A native of Calgary, Alta., Rempal has played 12 games in the National Hockey League with Los Angeles, Carolina, Vancouver and Vegas.

Lehigh Valley Phantoms forward Olle Lycksell has been selected as the Howies Hockey Tape/AHL Player of the Week for the period ending October 22, 2023.

Lycksell scored five goals over three games in a span of less than 48 hours, including the game-winning goal in each of the Phantoms’ two victories.

On Friday (Oct 20) in Springfield, Lycksell scored his first three goals of the season – one in each period – to secure the first hat trick of his AHL career and lead Lehigh Valley to a 5-2 victory. He scored the Phantoms’ only goal in a 5-1 loss at Hartford on Saturday, and converted on the power play for the third time on the weekend to send the Phantoms to a 3-2 home win over Springfield on Sunday.

In 2022-23, his first season of play in North America, Lycksell notched 14 goals and 31 assists for 45 points in 53 games for Lehigh Valley – good for second on the team in scoring – and also tallied one assist in eight National Hockey League games with Philadelphia.

A 24-year-old native of Oskarshamn, Sweden, Lycksell played five seasons in the Swedish Hockey League, totaling 95 points in 221 games. He was a sixth-round selection by the Flyers in the 2017 NHL Draft.
