The Springfield Thunderbirds have announced that they have acquired defenseman Wyatt Newpower from the Syracuse Crunch in exchange for forward Matthew Peca.

The 28-year-old Newpower has posted eight points (2G, 6A) in 44 games with the Iowa Wild and Crunch this season with a minus-4 rating. Overall, he's played 256 AHL games with the Cleveland Monsters, Grand Rapids Griffins, Bridgeport Islanders, Wild and Crunch, recording 52 points (13G, 39A) with a plus-4 rating.

The 32-year-old Peca will be returning to the AHL affiliate team of the NHL team that drafted him, the Tampa Bay Lightning.

The Petawawa, Ontario native has played in 49 games for Springfield scoring 34 points (8G, 26A). In all, he's appeared in 530 AHL games with the Thunderbirds, Crunch, Laval Rocket and Belleville Senators, producing 391 points (124G, 267A).
