The Washington Capitals have assigned goaltender Mitch Gibson from the ECHL's South Carolina Stingrays to the Hershey Bears, it was announced Wednesday.

Gibson, in his second season of pro hockey, split time this year between the AHL and ECHL. In his lone game with the Bears, Gibson collected the win along with a 2.01 GAA and a .929 SP. Across 14 regular season games with the Stingrays, he posted a record of 12-1-0 to go along with a 1.75 GAA and a .933 SP.

Having also seen four games with the Stingrays in the playoffs, Gibson's numbers regressed, going 1-2-1 along with a 3.40 GAA and a .870 SP.

Drafted by the Capitals in the fourth round of the 2018 NHL Draft, Gibson has only made three career AHL appearances but has gone 3-0 while posting a 1.94 GAA and a .920 SP. Prior to making the transition, he spent three seasons in the NCAA with Harvard.

With Gibson joining the Bears, he could get some valuable experience under his belt thanks to Hershey's chances at another long playoff run. Having looked good in his brief AHL career, the Bears could rely on Gibson to go in and help the team if need be.
