Ouellet spent this past season playing in the AHL

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton defenseman Xavier Ouellet has signed a one-year deal with Dinamo Minsk, it was announced Saturday.

Ouellet, who spent the entire season playing for the Penguins affiliate, scored two goals and added 23 assists for 25 points in 63 regular season games. He was held pointless in two playoff games.

Drafted by the Detroit Red Wings in the second round of the 2011 NHL Draft, Ouellet last saw NHL action during the 2020-21 season with the Montreal Canadiens.

Over parts of eight NHL seasons with the Red Wings and Canadiens, Ouellet scored five goals and added 24 assists for 29 points in 189 career games. In 491 career AHL games, Ouellet had 220 points.

As Ouellet makes the first trek of his career overseas, it will be interesting to see if he eventually decides to return to North America. As someone who will most likely be relied upon by Dinamo, it is hard to imagine Ouellet coming back to the AHL if he experiences success.
