With the struggling John Klingberg landing on LTIR, thriving Marlies forward Alex Steeves is heading to the Maple Leafs

Alex Steeves is finally getting his well-earned call-up to the NHL.

With much-maligned blueliner John Klingberg heading to LTIR, Steeves has been recalled ahead of Toronto's Friday matchup against the Chicago Blackhawks

The 23-year-old Saint Paul native has been outstanding for the Marlies, with 11 goals and 18 points in only 14 games in the 23-24 AHL season.

Last season for the Marlies Steeves put together a 51-point season in 65 games, adding five points in seven playoff games.

Steeves went pointless in three games with the Leafs in 2022-23, earning one point in three games with the big club in 2021-22.

Klingberg, acquired by the Leafs in the off-season, has had an admittedly rough campaign in Toronto before landing on the injured list.

Through 14 games with the Buds, the once sought-after offensive defensemen sits with five points and a -7 plus-minus differential.
