There's no doubt about it, the Detroit Red Wings are decimated with injuries.
Today the club placed Dylan Larkin, J.T. Compher, and Klim Kostin on IR and recalled Zach Aston-Reese, Jonatan Berggren, and Austin Czarnik from the AHL's Grand Rapids Griffins.
Larkin was notably injured during a freak check/collision involving Mathieu Joseph and Parker Kelly in the Wings' loss to the Senators on Saturday. The ensuing commotion will also see David Perron receive a TBA suspension for his actions against Sens blueliner Artem Zub.
Aston-Reese, 29, is a veteran of 307 NHL games with the Penguins, Ducks, and Maple Leafs, putting up four goals and seven points for the Griffins in 20 games this season.
23-year-old Berggren has one point in four games with the Red Wings this season. The 33rd overall draft pick in 2018 has five goals and 15 points in Grand Rapids so far this season. He split time between the NHL and AHL in 2022-23, netting 28 points in 67 games in Detroit.
Czarnik, 30, has suited up for 182 NHL games with the Bruins, Flames, Islanders, and Kraken before joining the Red Wings organization in 2022-23. He has one point in 11 games in the NHL this season, with three goals and seven points in nine games in the AHL. Splitting time between Detroit and Grand Rapids in 2022-23, Czarnik put up 37 points in 43 games for the Griffins.
