Could the best deadline acquisition of the 2024 NHL trade deadline be a call-up?

The Dallas Stars have struck gold in the form of 21-year-old prospect Logan Stankoven, the dominant AHL rookie who has put up eight points and a whopping five goals in his first six National Hockey League games. But then, anyone who followed Stankoven in the AHL knew the Stars had a special player.

Stankoven, occupying a line and finding immediate chemistry with Wyatt Johnston and Jamie Benn, popped off for two goals and two assists in a wild 7-6 Dallas win over San Jose on Tuesday. The forward has been on fire in his first taste of NHL action, netting five goals and eight points during his brief stint in the NHL, putting up a plus-five, two power-play goals, 19 shots in net and six hits.

Simply put, Stankoven is found money for an already rock-solid Dallas team.

A bonafide first-round draft pick who slipped to the second round of the 2021 NHL entry draft, rumour has it, because of his size, the Kamloops, BC native was a force during his rookie year with the Texas Stars,

Through 47 games in the AHL, Stankoven led the league in points at the time of his call-up with 57, potting 24 goals in that span with a sturdy plus-nine differential. He had instant chemistry with fellow Dallas prospect Mavrik Bourque, a tandem which he's seemingly duplicated with the 20-year-old Johnston.

A product of the Kamloops Blazers of the WHL, Stankoven put up back-to-back offensive breakout campaigns, netting 45 goals and 104 points in 59 games in 2021-22, following that up with a 34-goal, 97-point clip in just 48 games in 2022-23.

He's the real deal folks. Get used to the name Logan Stankoven.
