The Blues and Islanders among underdogs primed to cover in Saturday’s late window

Some hockey fans will have been on their couch for seven hours by the time we hit the central time games with even more hockey action on for another five more hours. The Central games sees an exciting divisional showdown with the Predators taking on the Stars and the late games hosting more exciting matchups with the Islanders travelling to Sin City to take on the Golden Knights

If you can handle this much hockey in a day, you might as well profit from it. Here are some of our best bets for the Central and West coast games that should hopefully earn you some cash without having to get up from the couch.

St. Louis Blues @ Carolina Hurricanes

The Hurricanes are red hot with five straight wins, four of which were on the road. They travel back to Raleigh to host the Blues in their second game of a back-to-back following their 6-2 dismantling of the Capitals Friday night. The Blues have been trending in the right direction as well with six wins in their last nine games. It’s one of the toughest things to do in the NHL to win both games of a back to back, but Carolina has had some success winning both games of a doubleheader twice already this season.

However, the Blues are 7-3 against the spread in their last ten games as an underdog with big wins against some of the league’s best in the Canucks, Panthers and Stars twice. They may not win as they’ve lost five of their last six matchups against the Hurricanes but with fatigue on defense the Hurricanes may have a hard time covering the puck line.

Pick: Blues +1.5 (-150)

Nashville Predators @ Dallas Stars

The Stars have won five straight versus Nashville and looks to catch them off guard once again as they are 3-4-1 in their last eight games. It brings the betting lines to a point, where Dallas is the favourite but we shouldn’t forget that the Predators woes started since their home stand. They have a 7-1-1 record in their last nine road games and average the sixth-most goals per road game with 3.44 during that span.

They may not beat Dallas but as an underdog the Preds are 14-7 against the spread which is better than Dallas' 9-26 record as a favourite against the spread. It’s hard to back a road underdog but Nashville should wake up for this game and respond to their recent record with possibly a win but at minimum covering the puck line.

Pick: Predators +1.5 (-155)

Ottawa Senators @ Edmonton Oilers

The Oilers will be well rested in this one with four days off since their last game. They come into this one with six straight wins and are 10-1-1 in their last 12 games versus Ottawa. The Sens will need to keep in this game with their scoring which is actually quite good despite their 14-20-0 record this season. Their offense is 11th in goals per game this season ahead of the likes of the Jets, Bruins and Golden Knights. So they can score and Stuart Skinner has been great between the pipes lately for the Oilers with a record of 4-1-0 and goals against average of 1.99 in his last five starts.

He does have a history of blowup starts with giving up a few and forcing Edmonton into a high-scoring game. The Oilers have a 12-3-0 record in their last 15 games with the most goals per game during that span, while covering the puck line as a favourite in eight of the 12 wins. They should cover once again in a high-scoring affair.

Pick: Oilers -1.5 (+115), Over 6.5 goals (-190)

New York Islanders @ Vegas Golden Knights

For the first time in franchise history, the Panthers beat the Golden Knights in T-Mobile arena with a decisive 4-1 win on Thursday. The once unbeatable Golden Knights at home now have losses to the Coyotes, Blues and Sabres along with a close one goal game against the Sharks.

They haven’t been the world-beaters they normally are at home and the Islanders are coming into Sin City with hopes to turn things around. They look impressed from mid-November into December with a 9-1-2 record and the third-best goals per game with 3.92 during that span. Since then the Islanders are 5-3-3, which isn’t bad but their goal numbers dropped to out of the top 14 and took bad losses to the Habs and twice to the Penguins, getting blown out 7-0 in one of the games.

They played a tight game against a dominant Colorado team on the road, walking away with a point in an overtime loss and backing it up with a commanding 5-1 win over the Coyotes in Mullet arena, where they had previously won eight of their last ten games at home. Everyone and their mother is expecting a Golden Knights response but don’t be afraid to take the Islanders moneyline in a tight low-scoring game. If you want a sure thing then the Islanders puckline is the way to go.

Pick: Islanders +1.5 (-190)
