Ottawa looks primed to get out to early lead with league-lead in first goals scored at home

Monday’s only matchup sees the Predators travel to O-town to take on the Senators in what should be a surprisingly exciting matchup. Both teams have their strengths with Ottawa just outside the top ten in goals per game with a 3.33 average that tops the Rangers, Panthers and Golden Knights. The key for the Preds is their defense with a decent 3.10 goals against per game average that is tied with the Avalanche and ahead of teams like the Red Wings and a surging Blues team.

These two have a history of close games with Nashville having the upper hand with a 6-1-3 record in their last ten matchups. It should be an exciting standalone game and if you want to get in on the action, here is our best bets for tonight’s matchup between the Sens and Preds.

Pick: Senators score first (-120)

These two have seen five or fewer goals in five straight matchups but the Senators offense has been humming at a different level this season with home offense scoring 3.35 goals per game that outranks the Golden Knights, Panthers and Jets. They also often hit overs with their lackluster backend that allows 3.54 goals per home game, which is bottom four in the league. The Predators will be scrappy in this game with their upper hand in record over the Sens plus a decent 13-10-1 road record this season.

The Senators have seen 16 of their last 25 home games this season hit seven or more goals, which will go against the Predators seven straight games with seven or fewer goals. Both teams could boom or bust, which makes the Senators getting out to an early lead feel like the best play as they have a league-best 19 home games where they’ve scored first.

Pick: Brady Tkachuk over 0.5 points (-160)

The Senators captain has been consistent this season with 12 points in his last 13 games and the Sens-lead in home points with 14 goals and 27 points in 26 games this season. He should get help from his red hot linemates Claude Giroux and Tim Stutzle, who are both at 12 points since the start of the new year with Tkachuk. If the top line finds the back of the net, he’ll be on the scoresheet.
