Avs and Sens matchup sees two young goalies suit up in an expected high-scoring game but that may not be the case

The Avalanche are coming off a bad road loss that they should’ve won versus a Habs team that is one of the worst at home. They look to respond with a road win against the Sens in the nation’s capital, where they’ve won seven of their last 12 trips. Ottawa has had a disappointing season to say the least with an 11-10-0 record at home but have tried their best to give their fans something to cheer about, ranking top ten in home offense with a 3.43 goals per home game average this season.

The Sens look to keep up with the Avs at home in what will surely be an exciting matchup that will remind hockey fans of the early 2000s when both of these teams were hockey powerhouses. If you want to get in on the Tuesday night action, here is our best bet for the Avs versus the Senators.

Pick: Under 6.5 goals (+110), Mads Sogaard 30+ saves (+150)

Most hockey fans are expecting this to be a high-scoring game with both teams starting young goalies in the Avs’ Ivan Prosvetov and the Sens’ Mads Sogaard. Prosvetov has a 3.16 goals against average with a 4-3-1 record in eight starts this season and Sogaard is starting in his first game of the campaign, when last season he started in 17 games and had a 3.32 goals against average. Everyone will look at this and think the over is a lock but I expect one of these goalies to stand on their head and have an impressive performance and I think Sogaard is the man for the job.

The 23-year old netminder is making his first start of the season after spending most of the season thus far in the AHL with Belleville. He has great minor league numbers with a 2.48 goals against average and a .920 save percentage. He faces an Avs team that is averaging 31.8 shots per game over their last ten games and will be supported by a Sens defense giving up 34.1 shots per game in their last 12 games. He will need to make big saves and have a clutch performance if the Sens want a chance in this one.
