Tuesday’s NHL slate is loaded with 13 games as the playoffs loom with championship hopes on the line. The Capitals and Red Wings are in a dog fight with several other teams for the two remaining playoff spots and they just so happen to face off in an all-important matchup.
The Islanders look to further their lead in the third Metropolitan division spot in a challenging matchup against their intercity rival, New York Rangers. It appears to be a close finish with teams like the Flyers falling behind and needing to win if they want to stay in the hunt.

Bet: Red Wings ML (-155), Under 6.5 goals (-140)
The Red Wings have found success against the Capitals with a 4-2-2 record over their last eight matchups which can hopefully propel them above their 4-3-2 record over their last nine games and get them back in the playoff race.
Washington was in the driver seat for the Metropolitan Division’s third spot but have fallen on hard times with six straight losses as their defensive unit has completely fallen apart.
They’ve been outscored 25 to ten during their losing streak with netminder Charlie Lindgren doing the best he can while being peppered for 185 shots over his last six starts where he earned just one win and gave up 3.75 goals per game on average.
He’s the netminder Detroit will want to face off against as their netminder is getting hot at the right time in Alex Lyon. The 31-year-old has stellar career numbers when the calendar hits April and it continues again this season with a .940 save percentage along with a goals against average of 2.23 during his last four starts since the end of March.
The Capitals issues on defense have been a mystery all season as they’ve never been elite on the backend yet still found ways to win games with their situational offense but when the goal-scoring goes ice cold they will need to make adjustments or this losing streak will remove them completely out of this playoff race.
They can possibly make them tonight and keep the game close but to do it on the road against a team picking up steam is something you shouldn’t count on.
Bet: Flyers ML (-135), Owen Tippett Over 0.5 points (-135)
The Flyers have struggled to stay in the playoff race when they were one point in a comfortable position and are now tied with the Capitals at the back of the bus of teams trying to climb into the last spots.
They’ve been one of the league’s worst teams as of late with the most goals allowed on average since mid-March at 4.27 which has resulted in just two wins during that span.
They’ve had plenty of bounce back opportunities to get back in contending form and have fumbled every chance with a bad losses to non-contending teams in the Blue Jackets, Blackhawks and their opponent tonight, the Canadiens.
The last time these two squared off two weeks ago, the Habs jumped onto a 3-0 lead and never looked back as they won decisively 4-1 with defensive anchor Mike Matheson dishing for three assists.
Montreal’s win wouldn’t last long as they would go on to lose four of their next five games and be outscored 19 to eight in crushing defeats.
It again appears to be another bounce back opportunity for the Flyers, who will go against a Habs team that is one of the league’s worst home teams with the fourth-fewest goals this season (104) and a bottom five goals against average (3.33) that culminates in their 15-20-4 record that is third-worst in the NHL.
Philadelphia has also routinely found success in the City of Saints with a 7-2-2 record over their last 11 games at the Bell Centre.
Owen Tippett will need to lead the charge for his team as he has offensively all of March with the team-lead in goals at seven and in points at 15 which further builds on his already impressive season. He also has a great history against the Habs with goals in each of their last five matchups.
