    Montreal’s Canadian-led backend

The Montreal defense should look to be a tough one with Canadian netminder Ann-Renee Desbiens starting between the pipes. She was named the top goalie at the 2023 IIHF Women’s World Championships with a 1.98 goals against average in five starts. They also have defenders Jaime Bourbonnais and Erin Ambrose, who played for a Team Canada that allowed only 13 goals across seven games on their way to a Silver medal finish.

    Ottawa’s high-end defense

Ottawa spent their first three draft picks in the 2023 PWHL draft on the backend acquiring American defenseman Savannah Harmon and Ashton Bell along with Canadian Ashton Bell and solidifying their top three defenders.

Ottawa will also look strong in between the pipes with their German netminder in Sandra Abstreiter. The Freising native was instrumental for the Germans success with three wins in five starts and a 2.70 goals against average. Her most impressive start was a 3-0 loss to the eventual gold-medal winning Americans. It was the lowest goal total for Team USA in the tournament tied with their three goals scored against Canada in the preliminary round.

Best Bet: Under 5.5 goals (-110)

Both teams have built up their backends for success and should play a key factor for their teams success in this game and this season. It should help this game secure the second straight PWHL game under.
