Anaheim Ducks @ Toronto Maple Leafs
This game on the surface looks like it shouldn’t be close as the Buds have beaten the Ducks in nine of their last 11 matchups. However, the Ducks have won or kept it within one goal in six of those 11 matchups and could keep it close again as they are coming off a decisive 5-1 win over the Senators on Thursday. In close games, William Nylander shines as he’s scored more game-winning goals than Auston Matthews and before their three previous matchups, he had a five game goal streak versus the Ducks. He should find the back of the net again in a surprisingly close game for Hockey Night in Canada.
Pick: Ducks +1.5 (-110), William Nylander anytime goal (+100)
Washington Capitals @ Montreal Canadiens
The Habs beat the Capitals 5-2 earlier this month on the road. They now get to play in their own building which actually may not be what they want as they have a better record on the road with a 11-10-5 record that trumps their 11-14-3 home record. They will need their top line of captain Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield and former first-overall pick Juraj Slafkovsky, who have combined for 17 goals in their last nine games. The captain should stay hot and score his 20th goal of the season against a Caps team he’s scored against in four of their last six matchups.
Pick: Nick Suzuki anytime goal (+190)
Philadelphia Flyers @ New Jersey Devils
Outdoor games are always a thrill to watch but we should expect a low-scoring game with eight of the 13 Stadium Series games going under seven goals. The Devils have also haven’t had many high-scoring games with six or fewer goals in nine of their last 14 games. The Flyers are also just inside the top ten in fewest goals against with a 2.85 average per game that is tied with the Hurricanes. One player who should score is Jack Hughes, who’s scored in four of his last five games against the Flyers and has scored in two of his last three games.
Pick: Under 6.5 goals (-135), Jack Hughes anytime goal (+125)
Winnipeg Jets @ Vancouver Canucks
An exciting all-Canadian matchup between two teams who have a shot to end the country’s 31 year drought of winning the Stanley Cup. The Canucks have been on fire with one regulation loss in their last 17 games. The Jets are a defensive juggernaut with netminder Connor Hellebuyck playing at an unprecedented rate with a goals against average of 1.73 since mid-November. He also has dominated the Canucks with a goals against average of 1.71 and a save percentage of .941 in 17 career games. You can expect a low-scoring affair where the Jets netminder steals a win.
Pick: Jets ML (+100)
